Best Emergency Lite
The PETZL E+LITE
The Best Emergency Lite is the PETZL E+LITE.
What is the pull tab on the PETZL E+LITE you ask?
It's actually a well built add-on that allows you to easily wear your lite on virtually any piece of gear that you have.
Wear it on your arm or attach it to your gear.
Easily attaches to your web gear or harness
Grab the tab to extend the spring loaded cord, slide it through your web gear, around your arm, ankle, beer can, etc. and fold the light through the loop. The spring loaded cord will draw up securing the lite where you put it. If you've tied a Girth Hitch knot, that is exactly how this works which is better than hanging a lite on a carabiner. No flopping around. The E Lite stays snug.
PETZL did a great job with this lite keeping lite discipline in mind. There is a Lock and there are 2 OFF switches located on the White and Red sides.
Use the Protective Cover as a Base to position your lite
Prior to heading out, select the appropriate OFF switch if Lite Discipline is a concern. Otherwise, leave the switch on LOCK to prevent an AD.
The light pivots on a ball hinge giving you maximum positioning while working hands-free. Imagine climbing under the kitchen sink and needing a light strapped to a pipe and angled for optimum direct lighting!
From the OFF position, rotate the switch counter clockwise to move to Low White and then to High White. Red works the same, Low Red first to get to High Red.
The Beacon function works for both White and Red lites for distress or IFF.
