EOD Gear IMPROVISED – New Season Kickoff

We’re kicking off a new season of EOD Gear IMPROVISED late in 2025 as a runway into 2026—and for the first time, we’re recording video alongside the audio. Same straight talk, more visibility.

Catch this on the EOD Gear Youtube Channel!

If you’re new here, EOD Gear IMPROVISED is about what actually works in the field, what we’re building, and where the industry is heading—without the marketing fluff.

2025: A Year of Movement, Travel, and Hard Lessons

2025 was a full-speed year.

It started, as usual, at SHOT Show, and we’ll be back again this January. If you’ve never been, it’s 14+ miles of booths, nearly 90,000 people, and one of the fastest ways to see where the industry is headed.

Beyond SHOT, the year took us everywhere:

  • Las Vegas, Tampa, Huntsville, Nashville

  • The EOD Memorial

  • IEBTI events

  • Countering Explosive Threats & Demining in the UK

  • NATO EOD Summit in Bratislava

  • More time in DC than I ever want to repeat

We wrapped the year at the EOD Summit in National Harbor, Maryland, which continues to be one of the more valuable events for real conversations and requirements.

The Shift: From Supplying Gear to Manufacturing It

EOD Gear has always built tools—but 2025 marked a decisive shift into expanded in-house manufacturing, not just supplying equipment.

What We’re Manufacturing Now

We also work with Missouri Science & Technology for characterization and are expanding academic partnerships where they make sense.

The Problem with “COTS” and Why We Built Custom Off The Shelf™

At every conference, we hear the same thing:

  • Industry needs to work with academia

  • Everything needs to be Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS)

The problem? Those two requirements don’t align.

Academic timelines are slow. Industry timelines aren’t. And traditional COTS doesn’t work when requirements are evolving in real time.

Our solution is the New COTS- Custom Off The Shelf.

That means:

  • Rapid prototyping

  • In-house CNC milling and turning

  • Banks of 3D printers

  • A team that can go from idea to deliverable fast

A Real Example

Over a beer at a conference, someone asked for a tool to remove primers from .50 cal cartridges so they could load squibs when M122s weren’t available.

We sketched it on a cocktail napkin.
Within a week, the tool existed—and it’s now shipping.

That’s Custom Off The Shelf™.

Supporting Innovators, Techs, and Startups

If you have an idea:

  • We’ll sign NDAs

  • We’ll help you prototype it

  • We’ll test viability before you burn money on tooling, IP, or production

We like working with techs and end users because the best ideas usually come from people who actually use the gear.

Compliance Is Built In, Not Added Later

All steel and aluminum we use is Berry Compliant.
ISO 9001 isn’t a badge—it’s how we operate.

For contracting officers and procurement teams, that box is already checked.

Looking Ahead: What 2026 Brings

One of the biggest developments heading into 2026 is the 12.7mm Dearmer.

The Russian and Chinese 12.7×108mm round doesn’t fit a standard .50 cal Dearmer—it’s longer and wider. With the realities of Ukraine, Gaza, and other conflict zones, this isn’t theoretical.

We:

  • Modified the .50 cal design

  • Extended the barrel and tooling

  • Redesigned the primer removal system

  • Retooled production

This platform is being built specifically for humanitarian demining and conflict-zone render-safe procedures, with organizations like:

How to Work With Us

We still support:

  • Individual purchases

  • Team buys

  • Credit card, P-card, and GSA

  • Multiple contract vehicles

If you don’t see what you need in the catalog:

  • Send us your list

  • Send us a sketch

  • Send us the problem

We’ll either build it, source it, or tell you honestly if it doesn’t make sense.

End of Year Note + Overstock Deal

As of mid-December, we’re running deep overstock deals—often below cost—due to contract overbuys.

You’ll find it directly on EOD-Gear.com.
Spend over $100 and shipping is free.

Final Thoughts

None of this happens without the team. We’ve grown to nine people, and walking into EOD Gear every day in Franklin, Tennessee is something I don’t take for granted.

If you’re in the Nashville or Huntsville area, stop by. People come in, build kits, write POs on the spot, and see how everything is actually made.

Thanks for listening, thanks for watching, and thanks for trusting us.

If you’ve got questions, ideas, or want to sanity-check a business or product before you spend real money—reach out.

Let’s finish 2025 strong and Go Kick Ass in 2026.
