The most common types of explosive breacher equipment is shock tube, breachers tape, explosive charges, blasting machine and EOD or explosive demolition gear and the teams special operations gear. Tactical Breaching gear should only be used by special operations personnel that have been certified by attending one of the Breacher schools available to military and law enforcement.
What are the advantages of using explosive breaching equipment over other methods?
The biggest advantage of using explosive breacher equipment is speed. When the demolition charge is initiated, entry personnel can enter immediately. Mechanical breaching or tactical equipment can take significant time on target and let the bad guys know you are coming in giving them time to flush or destroy evidence or further bunker in place for a fight.
Another advantage is that the breacher shot acts as a distraction device such as a flashbang. Other benefits include weight. Breaching charges are small and lightweight. Compared to door rams and other mechanical breaching tools which are very heavy and may take additional personnel to carry. When the op is over, the mechanical breaching tools must be returned. When explosive breaching is used, there is very little to carry away.
