Bomb Squad Robots
EOD Gear supplies bomb squad robots to FBI-accredited Public Safety Bomb Squads, through GSA, purchase order, or grant-funded procurement.
We carry the L3Harris T7 and T4 — the same platforms fielded by the US Air Force, US Navy and Marine Corps, and the UK and Australian defence ministries — and we support the documentation side of a municipal purchase: specification language, sole-source justification and grant-cycle lead times.
NBSCAB Robot Classifications
The National Bomb Squad Commanders Advisory Board defines robot classes in the National Guidelines for Bomb Technicians. Grant applications and agency specifications are written against these definitions, so the platform you specify has to map to one.
General Service Bomb Response Robot — a UGV capable of operating in the environments a bomb squad routinely responds to, with the manipulation, mobility and camera capability for standard render-safe tasks.
VBIED Capable Bomb Response Robot — meets every General Service requirement, plus the capability to address vehicle-borne devices: the lift, reach and disruptor capacity to work in and around a vehicle, and to be off-loaded from the bomb squad response vehicle fully configured.
Disassembly Capable Bomb Response Robot — proposed classification, extending VBIED capability to remote disassembly tasks.
Both platforms we carry meet General Service requirements. The T7's 250+ lb near-chassis lift, 122 in vertical reach and four-disruptor capacity address VBIED work directly — it lifts a 110 lb drum from a car trunk and passes its manipulator through a car window. If your grant application is written against a VBIED-capable specification, that is the platform to quote.
Choosing Between the Two for Public Safety Response
| Consideration | T7 (large) | T4 (medium) |
|---|---|---|
| VBIED work | Primary | Limited |
| Interior / stairwell access | Restricted by footprint | Primary |
| Lift near chassis | 250+ lb | 121 lb |
| Vertical reach | 122 in | 98 in |
| Below-grade reach | — | 51 in below ground |
| Transport | Response vehicle | Two-person carry, 4x4 |
| Disruptors | Up to 4, incl. 2 large | High-recoil capable |
| Weight | 710 lb | 154 lb chassis + 72 lb arm |
Most squads responding to a mix of suspicious packages and vehicle calls run a large platform as primary. Squads covering dense urban cores, transit systems or campus environments often get more use from the medium platform, because the calls that actually come in are interior.
If budget allows one now and one later, the shared controller and parts commonality between the T7 and T4 means the second acquisition adds no new training pipeline.
Funding and Procurement
Public safety robot purchases generally run through one of three paths, and each wants different documentation:
- Federal grant programs — DHS and state homeland security grant funding is the most common route for a replacement robot. These run on fixed application and award cycles, so lead time has to be confirmed before the application goes in.
- GSA schedule — EOD Gear is a GSA contract holder, which removes the competitive solicitation step for eligible agencies.
- Sole-source justification — where a specific platform is required for fleet commonality, existing operator qualification or NBSCAB specification match. We provide the supporting documentation.
We accept GSA, purchase orders, P-Card and credit card. Contact us with your classification requirement, funding path and target award date and we will quote with current lead times.
