Why a Medium Platform Gets Specified

Access, not capability, is the reason. Interior stairwells, apartment corridors, transit stations, aircraft cabins and below-grade utility spaces are routine bomb squad environments that a 710 lb large robot cannot enter.

The T4 reaches 51 in below ground level, self-rights if it tips, and deploys from a smaller vehicle with a smaller crew. For most Public Safety Bomb Squads responding to suspicious packages in built environments, that access profile matters more than maximum lift.

Disruptor Capability

The T4 was the first robot in its weight class able to fire high-power EOD disruptors — HOTROD and PIGSTICK among them — repeatedly without sustaining damage. Omni-directional stabilizers orient with the arm, which is what makes repeated high-recoil firing survivable at this weight.

That changes the procurement math. A medium platform that runs the same render-safe procedures as a large one removes the usual compromise between access and capability.

Tooling We Stock and Build

The platform is the start. What mounts to it decides whether the robot can execute your team's render-safe procedure:

Where a mount for a specific tool and platform combination does not exist, we fabricate it in Franklin, TN under ISO 9001:2015 through Custom Off The Shelf — CNC machining and additive manufacturing in-house.

Fielded Fleets

Customer Program Quantity
UK Ministry of Defence $18M contract, May 2024 Up to 50 T4
Belgian Ministry of Defence June 2025 14 T4
Australian Defence Force Land-154, $30M Up to 80 T4 and T7

The UK selected the T4 specifically to defeat explosive threats in confined urban spaces, following its earlier Project STARTER deployment of 122 large T7 systems.

Common Platform With the T7

The T4 shares its haptic controller and a substantial parts inventory with the L3Harris T7 large EOD robot. One training pipeline covers both, one spares stock supports both, and operators move between platforms without requalification. For agencies replacing an aging mixed fleet, that commonality is usually the larger lifecycle saving.

Procurement

EOD Gear is an SDVOSB and GSA Schedule contract holder — GS-07F-148GA — ISO 9001:2015 certified, ITAR registered, holding FFL10/FEL20. We accept GSA, purchase orders, P-Card and credit card, and support grant documentation and sole-source justification where your agency requires it. Available to authorized agencies only.

L3Harris T4: Frequently Asked Questions

How much can the T4 lift and how far does it reach?

121 lb (55 kg) near the chassis and 44 lb (20 kg) at full extension, with 80 in of horizontal reach and 98 in of vertical reach. It also reaches 51 in below ground level, which matters for below-grade utility spaces and sub-floor access.

Is the T4 a small or a medium EOD robot?

Medium. L3Harris classifies it as its medium-sized platform, alongside the large T7. It is substantially larger and more capable than the man-transportable class of small robots, while still being carried by two people and transported in a 4x4.

Can the T4 fire disruptors?

Yes. It was the first robot in its weight class able to fire high-power EOD disruptors such as HOTROD and PIGSTICK repeatedly without taking damage. Omni-directional stabilizers orient with the arm to absorb the recoil. EOD Gear supplies the disrupter mounts, recoil mitigation hardware and ammunition separately.

How does the T4 compare to the T7?

The T7 lifts more than twice as much and reaches two feet higher, which makes it the platform for vehicle-borne work and heavy UXO recovery. The T4 goes where the T7 cannot — interiors, stairwells, below grade — and deploys with a smaller crew. They share a haptic controller and many parts, so running both costs one training pipeline. See the T7 large EOD robot.

Can agencies purchase the T4 on GSA?

Yes. EOD Gear is a GSA Schedule contract holder — GS-07F-148GA — and an SDVOSB. Agencies can purchase via GSA, P-Card, or purchase order. We also support grant documentation and sole-source justification. Use the contact form for procurement support.

Who is eligible to buy an EOD robot?

Authorized agencies only — accredited Public Safety Bomb Squads, military EOD units, and federal response teams. EOD Gear is ITAR registered and holds FFL10/FEL20. Robots are quoted by configuration rather than sold online.

Can EOD Gear build a custom mount for our tooling?

Yes. Mounts and adapters are fabricated in-house in Franklin, TN under ISO 9001:2015 using CNC machining and additive manufacturing. Send us the tool and the platform interface and we will quote the part.
