Aerial HazPro Bread Box
Protective Bag for Small Explosive Transport · ATF-Observed Testing · Quote Only
A protective transport bag for small explosives and energetics under 1 lb TNT equivalent. Built by Aerial's HazPro — the market leader in passive, fabric-based fuel tank fire suppression (FTFS) for U.S. Army and Marine tactical trucks, with over 23,000 trucks equipped since 2007. The Bread Box brings that same patented dry-chemical suppression technology to the bomb tech's hands.

How It Works
The Bread Box is a textile-based bag whose walls contain a benign dry-chemical extinguishing agent — the same agent used in military truck FTFS kits — reinforced with NIJ Level IIIA soft armor. Should a device function inside the bag, the pressure and fragments release the extinguishing agent into the ambient area, dramatically reducing or eliminating the thermal effect while the armor and bag structure knock down overpressure and fragmentation. A foam cradle keeps the target from rolling during transport.
Tested Under ATF Observation
- Tested under observation by certified explosive specialists (CES) from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms — tests designed with ATF input against real-world threats seen across different geographies
- Results corroborated by independent test lab Chesapeake/NTS
- ~85% PSI reduction with a typical pipe bomb (5" galvanized surrogate) — independent sensors at 3 ft (arm's length) show blast pressure declining to nearly zero when the target is enclosed
- 32% PSI reduction at arm's length at the design limit of 1 lb TNT equivalent (400 g cast booster, TNT/PETN mix)
Typical Uses
- Retrieving and transporting a typical pipe bomb: PVC, black pipe, or copper, 5"–8" long, up to 1.25" diameter
- Retrieving and transporting a single small grenade
- Transporting blasting caps and small charges pit to pit during demolition operations
- Carrying breaching charges — on scene, the charge can be used and the bag left behind for retrieval once the scene is secure, so charges no longer ride on the operator's vest
- Recovering crickets (CO₂ cartridges) at crime scenes
- Collecting and transporting evidentiary fragments for forensic analysis
Technical Properties
- Textile-based bag containing benign, dry-chemical extinguishing agent
- NIJ Level IIIA soft armor protective reinforcement within bag walls
- Secure foam cradle prevents the target from rolling during transport
- Approximately 10 lb; approximate dimensions 18" × 8" × 6"
- Does not interfere with X-ray imaging
- Portable in one hand with arm outstretched, leaving the second hand free
- For potentially volatile targets: carry with a stick, or drag with a carabiner and rope, chain, or strap
- D-rings on each end for hanging, dragging, storage, and robot handling
- Velcro EMPTY / HOT flap as a visual reminder on the range and during transport
Who It's For — and the Hard Limits
Use of the Bread Box with a live target is reserved for trained personnel: military EOD and munition demolition specialists, state and local police or fire bomb technicians, SWAT breachers, and federal agency bomb technicians and explosives specialists.
Know the limits. The Bread Box is designed for small explosives and energetics below 1 lb TNT equivalence (RE). Threats greater than that level require different safety protocols, and large explosive charges (RPG, IED, EFP) should never be transported with the Bread Box. There are no guarantees or warranties in survivability; used as intended by trained personnel with reasonable safety protocols, the Bread Box greatly reduces overpressure, fragmentation threat, and thermal effect.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size device is the Bread Box designed for?
Small explosives and energetics under 1 lb TNT equivalent — typical pipe bombs (5"–8" long, up to 1.25" diameter), a single small grenade, blasting caps, small charges, and crickets. Larger threats (RPG, IED, EFP) must never be transported in the Bread Box.
Does it contain a blast completely?
No — and no honest product does. Under ATF-observed, independently corroborated testing, the Bread Box greatly reduces overpressure, fragmentation threat, and thermal effect: roughly 85% PSI reduction with a typical pipe bomb and 32% at the 1 lb TNT design limit, measured at arm's length. There are no guarantees or warranties in survivability.
Does the bag interfere with X-ray?
No — a device inside the Bread Box can be X-rayed without removing it.
Can it be handled remotely?
Yes. D-rings on each end support hanging, dragging, storage, and robot handling, and volatile targets can be moved with a stick or dragged via carabiner and rope, chain, or strap. The Velcro EMPTY/HOT flap gives everyone on scene an instant visual status.
Who should use the Bread Box?
Trained personnel only: military EOD and munition demolition specialists, state/local police and fire bomb technicians, SWAT breachers, and federal bomb technicians and explosives specialists.
