What is the difference between Level III, III+, and Level IV lightweight plates?
Level III protects against most common rifle threats up to 7.62x51 M80. Level III+ (a special threat rating) includes protection against higher velocity rounds like M855 and M193. Level IV is the highest rating, designed to stop armor-piercing (AP) rounds.
Are Lightweight Polyethylene (PE) plates more durable than ceramic or steel?
Lightweight PE plates are superior in several ways: they are much lighter, offer excellent multi-hit capability, and completely eliminate dangerous spalling, which is a critical risk with steel armor. While ceramic stops high-velocity rounds, PE is often preferred for Level III/III+ multi-hit solutions.
Do your rifle plates meet the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standards?
Yes, we only provide NIJ Compliant or NIJ Certified armor plates. Our selection is fully documented and includes products from trusted, tested manufacturers. Furthermore, EOD Gear performs in-house testing, including post-shot X-ray analysis, to ensure the absolute integrity and quality of the life-saving gear we offer.
What is the lightest multi-hit rifle plate EOD Gear offers?
Our selection includes ultra-light options as low as 2.3 lbs for a 10x12 multi-curve rifle plate. The specific weight depends on the NIJ level required (III, III+, or IV) and the material composition (PE, ceramic, or composite).
What care is required for lightweight body armor plates?
Lightweight armor, especially PE and ceramic, requires protection from hard drops, extreme heat, and puncture damage. Always store plates in a climate-controlled area. For specific care and warranty details (typically 5 to 15 years), refer to the individual product's manufacturer guidelines.
