8-Hour HAZWOPER Supervisor Initial Training

Online · Self-Paced · Certificate on Completion · $79.95

If you supervise or are directly responsible for employees at a hazardous waste operation or emergency response site, OSHA requires supervisor-level HAZWOPER training under 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(4) (General Industry) and 29 CFR 1926.65(e)(4) (Construction). This 8-hour online course satisfies that requirement.

Who Needs This Course

OSHA requires supervisor training for anyone who directly oversees workers covered by the HAZWOPER standard:

  • Site supervisors and foremen at hazardous waste cleanup and remediation sites
  • Shift leads and crew leaders on emergency response teams
  • Site safety officers and project managers at TSD facilities
  • Military and government personnel supervising HAZMAT/CBRN response operations
  • EOD, bomb squad, and hazmat team leaders whose personnel operate under 1910.120

Prerequisite: You must first hold worker-level HAZWOPER training — either the 40-Hour HAZWOPER or the 24-Hour HAZWOPER. Supervisors must be trained to a level equal to or greater than the workers they oversee. Need both? The 40-Hour + Supervisor Initial package is $320 on our training portal.

Why Get Your HAZWOPER Supervisor Certification?

Here's the practical reality from our experience in this industry: if a company is hiring personnel with HAZWOPER — or the ability to get the HAZWOPER — then they will need HAZWOPER Supervisors. The two go together. Wherever there's a HAZWOPER crew, OSHA requires supervisor-level coverage on site.

  • You get picked first. If you already have the 40-Hour HAZWOPER and the Supervisor, you will more than likely be picked for a job over the person that only has the basic level.
  • Government contracts demand it. Many government contracts require at least one HAZWOPER Supervisor. Holding the certification makes you the person who satisfies that requirement — and makes your resume the one that wins the slot.
  • A small investment for a big edge. Eight hours and $79.95. Put yourself ahead of your competitors.

What the Course Covers

The specialized supervisor-level topics OSHA lists in 1910.120(e)(4):

  • Your employer's safety and health program and employee training program
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) programs and selection
  • Spill containment programs
  • Health hazard monitoring procedures and techniques
  • Supervisor responsibilities during emergency response
  • Recordkeeping and compliance documentation

How It Works

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is required to take HAZWOPER supervisor training?

Any manager, supervisor, foreman, or team lead who directly supervises employees engaged in hazardous waste operations or emergency response covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120. Every hazardous waste site must have at least one trained supervisor on duty.

Do I need the 40-Hour HAZWOPER before taking the supervisor course?

Yes. OSHA requires supervisors to first complete the same worker-level training as the employees they oversee — typically the 40-Hour (or 24-Hour) HAZWOPER — plus this additional 8 hours of supervisor-specific training. A discounted 40-Hour + Supervisor Initial package is available on our training portal.

Is online HAZWOPER supervisor training OSHA-compliant?

Yes. OSHA permits the classroom portion of HAZWOPER training to be delivered online. Hands-on and field experience requirements under 1910.120(e) are the employer's responsibility and are documented separately.

How long does the course take?

The course covers 8 hours of material. Because it's self-paced, you can complete it in one sitting or spread it across multiple sessions — your progress is saved.

Is the HAZWOPER Supervisor certification worth it for my career?

Yes. Companies hiring HAZWOPER-trained personnel also need HAZWOPER Supervisors on every site, and many government contracts require at least one certified supervisor. A candidate holding both the 40-Hour HAZWOPER and the Supervisor certification will more than likely be picked over the person with only the basic level.

When do I get my certificate?

Immediately upon passing the final exam. You will receive your certificate via email so it can be saved to your files and/or printed for your records — and it can go straight into your company's OSHA training records.

How often does supervisor training need to be renewed?

Annually. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(8) requires 8 hours of refresher training every year for both workers and supervisors.

Can I train my whole team?

Yes — if you have ten or more employees who need training, set up a corporate account. Your designated admin enrolls employees (no credit cards, no reimbursement forms), tracks progress, and prints certificates, and your company is billed monthly for that month's enrollments. We can build a branded training portal that mimics your company website. In-person delivery is available at EOD Gear in Franklin, TN, or at your location — travel charges may apply.
